Environmental Policy and Procedure

Purpose of Policy

This Environmental Policy outlines TRZ Care’s policy on how we will minimise our environmental impact.

To meet the legal requirements of the following legislation:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
  • The Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005
  • The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014

Scope

The policy applies to:

  • All employees, including those designated as temporary, bank staff, agency staff, volunteers or work experience
  • Contractors
  • Stakeholders

Objectives

The objectives of this policy are:

  • To ensure compliance with legislation
  • To ensure compliance with regulations
  • To ensure that environmental risks are reduced
  • To ensure the services we provide enhance environmental sustainability
  • To encourage all employees to identify and suggest how we can reduce our environmental impact

Policy Statement

TRZ Care recognises the impact of our activities on the environment and is committed to promoting environmental sustainability.

TRZ Care will comply with environmental legislation, regulations and good practice relevant to our organisation.

TRZ Care is committed to protecting the environment by:

  • Minimising waste
  • Disposing of waste in a safe and environmentally friendly way
  • Promoting recycling
  • Reducing our carbon footprint
  • Minimising energy consumption
  • Minimising our water consumption
  • Minimising printing
  • Minimising the use of consumables
  • Minimising the impact of employee travel
  • Identifying ways to reduce our environmental impact

It is the Policy of TRZ Care to ensure that all clinical and hazardous waste is disposed of in accordance with legal and environmental requirements.

TRZ Care requires employees to report concerns relating to environmental hazards to the Registered Manager.

TRZ Care encourages all employees to suggest how we can reduce our impact on the environment and will implement suggestions that are viable.

The Registered Manager is responsible for ensuring our environmental responsibilities are met.

TRZ Care is committed to implementing this Policy and the practices it sets out.

Procedure

Environmental Hazards

If an employee identifies potential or actual environmental hazards they must report these without delay to the Registered Manager.

The Registered Manager must investigate and manage the concerns raised and inform the employee raising concerns of the outcome.

The Registered Manager must take action to manage risks and must ensure a full report is made of all management action taken.

Employee Suggestions for Environmental Sustainability

All employees are encouraged to identify areas for improvement in relation to environmental sustainability and to discuss these with the Registered Manager.

The Registered Manager must consider each suggestion made to see if it is viable and able to be implemented.

The Registered Manager must provide feedback to employees who make suggestions.

Roles and Responsibilities

All staff are responsible for:

  • Following the Environmental Policy and Procedure.
  • Reporting concerns relating to environmental hazards to the Registered Manager.
  • Suggesting how TRZ Care can reduce our impact on the environment.

The Registered Manager is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that this Environmental Policy and Procedure is implemented.
  • Ensuring resources are used responsibly and identifying green alternatives.
  • Investigating and managing concerns relating to environmental hazards.
  • Considering all suggestions made relating to minimising environmental impact.

Breaches of Policy

For employees, failure to adhere to the Environmental Policy and Procedure could lead to possible disciplinary action being taken.

For others (volunteers, agency staff, contractors) their individual relationship with the organisation may be terminated.

Monitoring and Review

This Policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if necessary due to legislative or regulatory requirements.
